Music Recording Studio
What do Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Jake Shimabukuro, The Dixie Hummingbirds, Madi Diaz, Debashish Bhattacharya, Kathy Mattea, Gamelan Bamboo Bali, Lindsay Mac and the Maeve Gilchrist Trio have in common? In addition to being great performers, all have brought musical or voice-over projects to the Steelgrass Recording Studio on Kauai.

Completed in the Spring of 2006, Steelgrass is a professional, state-of-the-art studio, designed by Stephen Webber, Professor of Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music. (See studio photographs) Housed in a specially constructed building, Steelgrass is the only fully sound-insulated studio on Kauai. We run the latest version of ProTools HD3 on an Apple G5, with a variety of outboard components and a wide selection of microphones (see below for a complete gear list).

Steelgrass Recording Studio is specially equipped for voice-over and spoken word projects: in addition to its top-quality professional digital recording equipment, we offer acoustically ideal voice-over isolation rooms, as well as the microphones recording professionals prefer for voice-over recording, including the Neumann U-87. Recent spoken word and V/O recording clients have ranged from Ke Kula Ni’ihau O Kekaha, a Hawaiian-language center on Kauai’s West Side, to Britain’s Thames TV, a number of visiting V/O performers doing commercial work while they enjoy a Kauai vacation, and Hollywood’s Dreamworks, which used the studio to record projects featuring Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Jay Baruchel.
